
Biomaterials and biosensing technologies play a critical role in advancing modern healthcare diagnostics and medical devices. Broadly speaking, the laboratory is interested in engineering functional nanomaterials and electrochemical systems to enable sensitive, rapid, and accessible detection of clinically and environmentally relevant targets. Current projects focus on the development of point-of-care biosensors for biomarkers associated with cardiovascular diseases, cancer, metabolic disorders, and oxidative stress, as well as multifunctional biomaterials for wound healing and implantable applications. Additional efforts explore bioluminescent whole-cell systems for environmental toxicity monitoring. Prospective students will gain interdisciplinary training in biomaterials, nanotechnology, electrochemical sensing, and translational bioinnovation.
