Antioxidant supplementation and regular exercise are important strategies for preventing cardiovascular diseases, particularly in obese and elderly individuals who are at increased risk due to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health by enhancing nitric oxide availability, improving lipid metabolism, and lowering blood pressure. Antioxidants, such as vitamins and plant-derived polyphenols, help reduce oxidative stress and support vascular function. Evidence suggests that combining exercise with appropriate antioxidant intake can improve vascular reactivity, reduce inflammation, and enhance metabolic profiles. Current projects in the lab focus on developing a simple and practical intervention combining daily walking (e.g., 8,000 steps per day) with antioxidant supplementation derived from Thai fruits and vegetables to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
